Climbing Roses... - The first thing I promised myself when arriving at Mooseys was that I could grow climbing roses. I wanted to copy English gardens with house walls covered in rose blooms, archways dripping with roses, rose walkways, roses on pillars, on fences...

Here is my motley collection of climbing roses - with the odd rambler thrown in...

Climbing Roses

This section of roses includes varieties from several often unrelated lines of development. While the act of lumping them all together here is taxonomically incorrect, it facilitates creating a way that you, the reader, can find roses with a common habit: tall roses that are trainable as climbers.

Climbers & Ramblers

(E?)(L?) http://southerngarden.weebly.com/climbers--ramblers.html

Picture: "Rambling Rector"

One of the most spectacular sights in the garden in spring is a structure smothered in blooms from a rambler or climbing rose. The key is researching and choosing wisely when it comes to selecting a rose of this caliber. I have a hard time resisting these roses and I must confess that there has been more than one occasion when I have attempted to grow a massive rose on an inappropriate structure. Ramblers tend to be very vigorous and some can easily consume a small building if left unchecked. Some climbers are more vigorous than others. So if you need a rose for a pillar or a small arch, you don't want something like Rambling Rector unless you want to spend quite a bit of your time with the pruning shears. Most of these roses only bloom once in the spring but you can be assured that they will be the focal point in your garden when in bloom.
