The Novgorod Kremlin or the Detinets is the most ancient of Russian kremlins. Not once has it caught fire and has been reconstructed later during its long history. And during World War II the Germans had barracks there. The UNESCO declared the Kremlin a World Heritage Site.

A city of northwest Russia south-southeast of St. Petersburg. One of the oldest cities in Russia, it was strategically and economically important in the Middle Ages because of its location on the chief trade routes of eastern Europe.
