Notes: The French expression allons-y is pretty simple: it's the first person plural ( nous ) form of the imperative of aller (to go), followed by the adverbial pronoun y . Allons-y means "let's go" both to announce that it's time to leave and to indicate the beginning of some activity.

B. « action d'introduire un appel » (droit). Attesté depuis 1690 [dans la locution interjection d'appel] (Furetière1 : Interjection d'appel est l'action par laquelle on déclare qu'on est appellant de quelque chose). -

Origine :

A. Transfert linguistique : emprunt au latin interjectio subst. fém. « interjection » (attesté depuis Varron, TLL 7/1, 2201). Cet emprunt est attesté dès les premiers témoignages d'un discours grammatical en français. Cf. Zumthor in FEW 4, 755b, interjectio I 1 ; Städtler, Grammatiksprache 227-228.

B. Formation française : dérivé du verbe interjeter* « introduire (un appel) » à l'aide du suffixe -tion*. Comme pour d'autres termes juridiques (objection*, interruption*), il s'agit d'une forme savante à partir du latin, analogique au substantif préexistant. Cf. Zumthor in FEW 4, 755b, interjectio II.
