Dt. "Cunnilingus", "Kunnilingus", engl. "cunnilingus", zu lat. "cunnilingus" = dt. "jemand, der an der weiblichen Scham leckt" setzt sich zusammen aus lat. "cunnus" = dt. "weibliche Scham", "weibliches Geschlechtsorgan" und lat. "lingere" = dt. "lecken" (lat. "lingua" = "Zunge"). Lat. "cunnus" wird auf eine Wurzel ide. "*keu-", "*skeu-" zurück geführt. Lat. "lingere" und dt. "lecken" gehen auf eine Wurzel ide. "*leigh-" = dt. "lecken" zurück. In beiden Fällen findet man eine große Anzahl weitläufiger Verwandter.
Engl. "cunnilingus" scheint im OED erstmals im Jahr 1887 aufgenommen worden zu sein. In der Diskussionsgruppe der "American Dialect Society" findet man dazu:
