"Cookie" als Farbe: - #673923 - Cookie


Die Briten nennen es "biscuit", die Amerikaner nennen es "cookie".

Engl. "cookie" läßt sich seit Anfang der 1700-er Jahre nachweisen. Niederländische Köche testeten die Ofentemperatur mit kleinen Kuchen bevor sie dem Ofen den großen Kuchen anvertrauten.

Das 1703 erscheinende amer.-eng. "cookie" gaht zurück auf ndl. "koekje" = "kleiner Kuchen", zu ndl. "koek" = "Kuchen" = engl. "cake", mittelndl. "koke", dt. "Kuchen".

Die engl. "biscuit" entstanden durch das "zweifache backen" von Brot, um es länger vor dem natürlichen Verfall durch Feuchtigkeit und Schimmel zu schützen. So konnten es auch Reisende mitnehmen, um ihre Versorgung sicher zu stellen. Das frz. "bescuit" wanderte im 14. Jh. - eventuell in Begleitung des "Zwiebacks" - nach England und wurde dort zu "biscuit". Mit fortschreitender zivilisatorischer Errungenschaften verzichtete man auf das "zweifache Backen", behielt aber die Bezeichnung "biscuit" bei, als allgemeine Bezeichnung für gut gebackene, knusprige, trockene Backwaren. Und während in der "neuen Welt" die Niederländer ihre "koekjes" an den Mann und die Frau brachten, die dann zu "cookies" wurden, verharrten die traditionellen Engländer bei ihren universell eingesetzten "biscuits".

fortune cookie (W3)

Das "fortune cookie" soll um 1920 in Los Angeles oder in San Francisco aufgetaucht sein, und wurde 1940 zum ersten mal schriftlich erwähnt, vermutlich als Import aus China. In der "foodtimeline" wird das Erscheinen des "Fortune cookie" allerdings auf 1918 datiert. Es handelt sich dabei um hohle Plätzchen, in ein kleines Stück Papier mit einer Lebensweisheit oder Weissagung eingebacken wurde.
