Die Rose "Rosa foetida" ("Rosa foetida var. bicolor Willmott") wird gelegentlich auch "Türkische Rose" genannt.

Der Name dieser Rose läßt nichts Gutes ahnen, bedeutet doch lat. "foetidus" = dt. "übel riechend", "stinkend", lat. "foetere" = dt. "übel riechen". Während auf einigen Seiten der Geruch der Rose als angenehm beschrieben wird, bestätigen andere Seiten einen gelegentlich als unangenehm empfundenen Geruch.
